The distance between the city of Siem Reap and the mighty important Tonle Sap lake varies from 7 to 12 kilometer.
During raining season, the lake expands in every direction thanks to the rain and reversing of the stream of Tonle Sap river. The return water carries highly nutrient new water resources from Mekong River from the two rivers meeting in Phnom Penh.
Along the road to Tonle Sap lake, the ricefields and open areas are a splendid view and a very relaxing spot.
Border stony hill
In the background to the left is Phnom Prohm, a sacred hill marking the normal high tide for the lake north towards Siem Reap.
It is an excellent spot to enjoy sunrise and sunset. It has a modern wat, temple and monastery, on the northwest top slope. And the remains of a trio temple in early mebon and late bayon style at the west top point of the hill.
It is a popular spot for younger khmer and khmer families for evening picnics.
